Bruno Mars Admits He's 'So Extra' For Hiring Ed Sheeran To Sing His Birthday Song

Ringing in another year in style! Bruno Mars is known for his superb vocals, but he's also, admittedly, a bit over-the-top with certain things.

One of those things turns out to be asking famous friends to sing him the "Happy Birthday" song while he indulges in mounds of delicious cupcakes. In a post shared to Instagram on Monday, October 8, the Grammy-award winning artist is seen sitting at an elaborately-decorated table in front of a giant plate of cupcakes adorned with his name and several candles.

The video shows Mars diving into the cupcakes with a fork and knife while the camera pans out to the left, showing none other than his equally-famous friend, Ed Sheeran, strumming on the guitar. As Sheeran sings the well-known "Happy Birthday" song, Mars waves his hands along to the music.

Much to Mars' delight, the "Perfect" singer chose to spice the song up a bit by adding some of his own lyrics, which included, "Happy Birthday dear two-time Superbowl performing, Bruno."

As the sweet serenade ends, Mars nods his head and insists, "Again!" as he clinks his drinking glass enthusiastically. Mars amusingly captioned the post, "You know you've made it when you can hire Ed Sheeran to sing you Happy Birthday. #ExtraForever #HappyBrunoMarsDay!" along with a champagne bottle and champagne glass emoji.

The 33-year-old singer is know for his spectacular performances and vivacious style, so it's only fitting that he chose one of the top artists in the world to sing for him on his birthday. It's also fitting that he chose to share the moment on social media, a place where he's frequently gone to poke fun at himself and others in the past.

In 2015, Mars pretended to start a Twitter feud with Sheeran after he got a little envious of the infamous Twitter dispute between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj after that year's MTV VMA's.

There's nothing but love between these superstars, though. Sheeran even divulged that he and Mars might be releasing a track of their own in the near future. In August, he told a reporter that the pair were working together in the studio and that they hang out a lot.

It seems this "Happy Birthday" performance may have permanently cemented their bromance status. Any collaboration between these two is sure to create some "24K Magic" for us all to enjoy.
