Getting in the Zone: Essentials of the Zone Diet

With all of the popular diets out there, it can be tough to sort out which one is the best and most efficient, especially when it comes to your own unique needs. Sometimes, the promise of a diet is encouraging, but it doesn't amount to much more than a false delivery. In an attempt to sort out the differences between the many diets available, we're covering a variety of different options for you to educate yourself on. Today we'll be discussing the Zone Diet.

So, what is the Zone Diet? This diet was created by a biochemist named Barry Sears. It's similar to a lot of popular diets out there since it includes a low consumption of carbohydrates. However, Barry Sears formed this diet to help reduce inflammation, which is a fairly unique approach compared to other diets we have covered. Once you get started with the Zone Diet, the idea is to eventually reach " the Zone." For a dieter to reach the Zone, the individual must be able to control any and all diet-induced inflammation.

There are many benefits to the Zone Diet. Here are just a few:

  • Once you have gotten into the Zone, your ability to think will be increased to a faster pace
  • You'll be able to maintain wellness for a longer period of time, meaning that you'll be less likely to get sick
  • This diet offers a variety of different available foods to eat, and also can be adjusted accordingly if you're a vegetarian or a vegan
  • The Zone Diet recommends that you eat five to six times a day
  • Healthy fats are included, which means your favorite foods can still be eaten within reason, as long as it follows the 30-30-40 rule
  • It's definitely easy to follow, making it simple to understand
  • You'll be in total control of your sugar because the Zone Diet limits refined sugars

Of course, there are a few disadvantages to the Zone Diet. The 30-30-40 rule that was mentioned in an above bullet point means that 30 percent of the food eaten on this diet is from protein, the other 30 percent comes from fat, and the 40 percent is from carbohydrates. Although this is not necessarily difficult to follow, there are times where this type of diet does not work for every type of person. Another disadvantage included with the Zone Diet is a calorie restriction; women on this diet are encouraged to eat 1200 calories a day, while men are told to eat 1500.
